[edit] Online Picture Galleries

One of the neat things about sites like flickr, and smugmug is they allow a teacher to upload and categorize any number of images and pictures. A great application is to ask students to upload a picture, and then comment parts of the picture (for example, in flickr, you can draw a comment box around a specific part of the picture and write a comment about it).

This allows students to view selected art (chosen by a teacher) and comment upon it. Using tags, you can select all Greek art, all 12th century art, art for homework on May 12, 2008, etc... You can password-protect access to a gallery, thus restricting access to only invited people.
